Transformation to a Customer-Oriented Development Process

by James Knox

The challenge was to transform a large, bureaucratic organization with 60,000 workers into a competitive business focusing on the needs of the customer. What does this have to do with agile development? The goals of this company's transformation were to concentrate on delivering value to the customer and to encourage workers to question how they were delivering that value. Agile development shares these goals. The interesting parallel is that both focus on building a strong, supportive environment for the workers.
