Competing in the Offshore Era

Over the past decade, US and European firms have pursued lower software costs by using offshore vendors. These development organizations include large system integration firms with overseas operations and outsourcers in India and nations in Southeast Asia. Major and nominally US-based system integrators use this approach to reduce delivery costs for development and technical support services. Companies such as Accenture, IBM, and others now have significant offshore operations. Foreign firms like Bangalore, India-based Wipro have emerged as effective competitors for information technology work in the global market.
