One of the main goals of knowledge management involves building computer systems for sharing information between dispersed human or machine entities within large, complex organizations. Implicit in this goal is the need to reduce the cost of finding the relevant knowledge needed to address an important problem at hand. The ability of a KM system to locate, organize, and share information is the main gauge of practical performance.
