A Radical Idea: Giving Away Source Code
Reading through a recent issue of Computerworld, I couldn't help thinking of Yogi Berra's refrain about "deja vu all over again." Salaries are up, IT costs are rising, the Web is everywhere. Outsourcing continues -- to Bulgaria now, of all places -- and every hardware and software vendor seems to have a dazzling new product guaranteed to cure whatever ails us. Y2000 has now entered the mainstream, but nobody seems to care very much that the nearly all of the statistics are still dismal and foreboding -- the world's computers may crash in a little more than 500 days, but in the meantime, let's talk about the latest version of Java and the latest gadgets for the Internet.
