Say "No" to Software Obsolescence

For years, we computing professionals have bemoaned the fact that we can't manage and create our products with the same degree of reliability that engineering disciplines expect. We've debated subjects like "Is programming an art or a science?" and "Can we really manage software development projects with the same rigor that bridge-building projects are managed?" Entire forests have been leveled to print books and journals describing how we can improve our project management practices, yet as an industry, we have made only marginal improvements. Why is that?
