Small, Measured Steps

by Jim Brosseau

There are all sorts of reasons for software teams to not undertake some sort of initiative to get better at what they do: "We've tried and failed at that stuff before," "We can't afford the time to do more stuff," or "It is going to cost us more money." Whatever the reason, the barriers to change are generally high enough that the team will continue to muddle on, and perhaps get their product out the door at some point -- likely a bit late, costing more than they had hoped, and doing less than they had anticipated.
