Will the Real Agile Processes Please Stand Up?

In February 2001, a group of "who's who" in software development methodologies convened in Snowbird, Utah, USA, to create the Agile Alliance and deliver a Manifesto for Agile Software Development (www.agilealliance.org). The Agile Alliance is a group of methodologists who have shed the use of traditional methodologies and processes. This decision was not taken lightly. Many of the founders of the alliance had been inventors and supporters of the traditional approaches and had benefited from them. However, the founders realized they had become increasingly oppressive and ineffective. Systems projects had evolved from simple systems using proven technology to n-tier, distributed systems using technologies such as wireless and component-based.
