Let me start by saying that this report is the outgrowth of an interesting series of apparently unrelated events. Last year, I attended the Cutter Summit and listened with great interest to several lively debates regarding software methods, component software, and related topics. The thread of software reuse popped up several times in different contexts, leading me to start noodling on the role of software reuse in today's world for the first time in -- literally -- years.
