It is generally agreed that outsourcing application development and maintenance has become a mainstream strategy for solving a variety of technical and nontechnical business problems. It has been reported that in 2003, more than half of all Fortune 500 companies outsourced some of their software development. What's driving this growth trend? The short-term cost savings of offshore outsourcing are simply too large to ignore. Global competition has companies in the US, UK, and other industrialized nations pulling out the stops to manage expenses, improve responsiveness, and increase profitability.
