"Distance Is Dead!" proclaimed the headlines at the height of the dot-com frenzy. The Internet and high-bandwidth connectivity were supposed to change the way we live and work, transforming our mundane existences into exciting virtual lives. Working with someone on the other side of the world was going to be as easy as working with someone on the other side of the room.
