Executives everywhere are being forced to ask themselves tough questions regarding what business they do inhouse and what they outsource. Because of increasingly competitive worldwide markets, outsourcing everything but an organization's "core competencies" has become the watchword. However, core competency is a slippery concept. With the smooth and successful workings of outsourcing agreements comes the inevitable loss of organizational knowledge and know-how. Managers are beginning to ask, what if we are giving away our key competitive edge?
