If you were an entrepreneur with a hot new IT-related technology in the 1980s or 1990s, where would you go for funding and support? Whether or not this involved physically transporting yourself to the magical kingdom of Silicon Valley, the answer is obvious: you would look for a venture capitalist (VC) who was willing to invest a few million dollars in your fledgling business, in the hopes of launching an IPO and making a fortune.
