Microsoft's View of the Future
One of the many insults that Microsoft has to endure is the charge that it doesn't invent any significant technology on its own, but merely copies or steals technologies from other companies. I have to admit that I've been guilty of making snide comments of this nature myself from time to time, though I'll be the first to admit that the "popularizer" of a technology is often not the one that invented it. As far as the layman is concerned, for example, Apple is the company that invented the mouse and the GUI, but most IT professionals are well aware that those two ideas, and many others, actually originated at Xerox PARC.
