Both the most devout and more moderate Luddites will have to gasp on this one.

By year-end (2010, that is), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a UN agency, sees the number of mobile subscriptions increasing from 4.6 billion to 5 billion. The world's current population of 6.8 billion people is expected to grow to 6.9 billion people. Assuming one subscription per human being, this means that by December, 73% of the world's population will have a mobile phone.
