Distance Learning

During the next 10-20 years, there will be substantial growth in the use and acceptance of distance learning to either augment or replace traditional learning mechanisms. Within many business organizations, the dominant application of distance learning during the next decade will focus on cost reduction and simplified logistics (e.g., eliminating the need to travel to corporate headquarters for face-to-face training) to accomplish essentially the same kind of training they perform today. Meanwhile, society at large will begin to use distance learning to facilitate forms of education that were not possible before (see sidebar).
