Agile Methodologies Gaining Wider Acceptance

A common question asked within the IT industry is "How can we successfully develop software?" One answer is to adopt and follow an appropriate software process -- also referred to as a software methodology -- to guide your development efforts. Following the tradition of our industry to narrow down all critical issues to a binary decision -- Windows versus Linux, Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) versus .NET, zero versus one -- in this case, we have heavyweight methodologies versus agile methodologies. Cutter Consortium recently conducted a survey of IT professionals to study the application of agile methodologies within IT organizations; we'll explore the results in this Executive Update.
