And Now, Service-Oriented Management
This is the third in a series of Executive Updates on Web services and service-oriented architecture (SOA). In the first, " The Lowdown on Service Orientation and Web Services" (Vol. 5, No. 4), we addressed the hype associated with these topics and examined the many terms being created that include the two words "service" and "oriented." In the second, " Beyond Web Services to Service-Oriented Platforms" (Vol. 5, No. 12), we examined the technical capabilities that, in addition to Web services, are required to create successful SOA implementations, and reviewed how vendors are creating product sets or platforms to address those needs. Here we continue the discussion by looking at a new area of both hype and required platform capability -- service-oriented management (SOM).
