Software Intellectual Property: Part III -- Getting Something for Nothing (Almost)

by E.M. Bennatan

In this, the third and last Executive Update in a series of three on software IP, we will consider the IP concerns about "free software," and we will look at another concern: how IP relates to offshore development. We will then examine the effect different types of projects have on the production of IP, and we will look ahead at how companies are planning to deal with these IP-related issues in the future. Finally, we will reexamine the "pound note for 50 pence" anecdote as it applies to the software industry, and we will attempt to determine whether companies are declining a deal that seems to be too good.
