David Caruso specializes in manufacturing, supply chain, and technology transformation strategies. David brings over 30 years of industry experience to these topics. With a thorough understanding of global trends, current business issues, and best practices, David assists clients in achieving effective use of technology to create business value and support the profitable growth of their companies.
For the previous 8 years, David was Senior Vice President & Director of Research at AMR Research, where he led the research organization. Previously at AMR, he led the ERP and CRM practices, advising executives of Fortune 500 manufacturing firms on selection and implementation best practices. In addition, he consulted with enterprise software and technology firms on competitive environment, technology, and go-to-market strategy. While at AMR David was instrumental in the development of the Demand Driven Supply Network model which has been adopted as a standard by most ERP and supply chain software firms. His specialty there was ROI and business case development for technology investment.
David has done significant work in the manufacturing industry as a manufacturing operations manager, as well as leading and consulting on many ERP implementations at companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Sun Microsystems, American Standard, and Rolls-Royce Motor cars where he designed an ERP system from the ground up for the configured assembly of their autos.
David has also held senior management positions within the software vendor community at several leading firms. He held the position of VP Marketing & Product Management at Pivotpoint, Inc., where he was responsible for the development and sales of three ERP product lines, and led a complete revamp of product direction and market positioning. At Visibility, Inc. David served as VP Marketing, and Product Development, leading all operational aspects of the firm except sales; architecting a new technology strategy; and doubling revenue. As Director, Product Management and Development at Dun & Bradstreet Software, David led the software development and consulting organization that was developing one of the very first client/server ERP systems. David’s work culminated in the development of an entire application development environment and he was granted a patent on workflow computing. While Director of Application Development at Cullinet Software, Inc., David led the development of one of the first large scale ERP systems and handled all high profile Fortune 500 consulting engagements.
David has been an active APICS CPIM since 1978 and served on the national APICS Repetitive Manufacturing SIG where he authored numerous training workshops and reference materials. Today, David sits on the executive advisory boards of several software firms and is a frequently requested keynote speaker at industry events and webcasts. David maintains an industry profile as a regular columnist with Manufacturing Business Technology, and has written articles for and been quoted in magazines such as the Wall Street Journal, Managing Automation, Industry Week, Chief Supply Chain Officer, Fortune, and Business Week. In addition, he has hosted a DVD video series on supply chain trends, appeared on several television and radio shows and sits on numerous boards and councils such as the annual Progressive Manufacturer award, and Infosys’ Leaders of Change executive advisory board.
