Ciaran Murphy

Professor Ciaran Murphy is the Bank of Ireland Professor of Business Information Systems; and the Chair of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems at University College Cork, Ireland.

Ciaran Murphy is an internationally recognized expert in Decision Support Systems. He has consulted to financial services companies, government agencies and international bodies. He is widely published, and has been author and editor of number of books, including Information Systems at CORE with Pat Finnegan. In addition, he has served on the editorial boards of a number of international research journals and has chaired a number of European Conferences on Information Systems.

He was described as "Ireland's Brain Farmer" by Business 2.0, and as one of the eight key people in Ireland that international IT leaders should contact. He heads Ireland's largest academic research group in Information Systems and his program produces the largest number of graduates who work in the IT areas of financial services in Ireland and the UK.

Professor Murphy has served as Chairperson of the Higher Education and Training Awards Council of Ireland, and as Chairperson of the National Council for Educational Awards. He has also served as a member of the Higher Education Authority, the funding agency for all universities in Ireland, and was a member of the New Ireland Forum.
