San Murugesan
Senior Consultant

Professor San Murugesan is a Senior Consultant with the Business-IT Strategies and Social Networking practices and an Adjunct Professor in the School of Computing and Mathematics at the University of Western Sydney, Australia, and is an independent IT and education consultant.
In a career spanning 34 years in academia and industry, Dr Murugesan lead successfully several innovative IT projects, provided leadership in teaching and research, and offered consultancy to business, industry and educational institutions. His career focused on the development, application and management of information technology, and on innovation. Dr Murugesan’s expertise and interests span a range areas and includes green computing, Web 3.0/2.0, mobile computing applications, Web engineering, information retrieval, e-business, innovation, IT project management, and offshoring.
In 2006, the Council of the Australian Computer Society elected Dr. Murugesan to the grade of Fellow of the Australian Computer Society (ACS), an honor that is awarded to those who have made a distinguished contribution to the field of information and communications technology. Dr. Murugesan is a distinguished visitor and tutorial speaker of the IEEE Computer Society. He was General Chair of the 5th International Conference on Web Engineering, which was held in Sydney in July 2005, and he has served as cochair and organizer of other international workshops and conferences. Dr. Murugesan was Vice Chair of the Web Engineering track of the World Wide Web Conference 2007.
Dr Murugesan is the editor of the forthcoming new Handbook of Research on Web 2.0, 3.0, and X.0: Technologies, Business, and Social Applications (IGI-Global, 2009). He has written over 200 articles and reports, and presented keynotes, seminars and short courses and workshops on hot topics in IT for professionals and executives.
Dr Murugesan serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Web Engineering, International Journal of E-Business Research, International Journal of Health Information Systems and Informatics, and the International Journal on Advances in ICT for Emerging Regions. Dr. Murugesan served in various senior positions at Southern Cross University and the University of Western Sydney, both in Australia, and the Indian Space Research Organization, Bangalore, India. He also served as Senior Research Fellow of the US National Research Council at the NASA Ames Research Center, Mountain View, California, USA. Dr. Murugesan can be reached at consulting@cutter.com.
