Cutter Consortium recently investigated the relevance of metrics and measurements to a green (environmentally responsible) organization. We asked:

Figure

Which combination of factors is motivating your company to be involved in environmentally responsible business policies?

These resulting figures* in no way can be considered conclusive, but they tend to indicate that people and profits are in the minds of those in the industry when it comes to green IT metrics. However, the lack of a clear-cut factor indicates possible confusion and lack of clarity as to what green IT can and should do within an organization. Thus, engaging key stakeholders and ensuring that the workforce is involved and motivated appear to be key ingredients in the green transformation of an organization.
