Q: To what extent do business managers at your organization actively participate in IT planning practices?

Business managers must be involved in the strategic IT planning process, in order to determine how best to spend IT resources on behalf of the business. So Cutter Fellow Bob Benson was not surprised our survey showed that "planning strategic business initiatives shows the highest level of engagement. But even here, for all respondents, less than 60% indicate such engagement at a high level. This is a challenge for IT -- to succeed in serving the business effectively yet without involvement from the business. Probably not surprisingly as well is that EA shows the least engagement. To the extent where EA is considered a purely technical matter, that's probably OK. But to the extent where EA is expected to contribute to business solutions, this isn't necessarily a good thing."
