Q: Are each of the following factors a barrier to the successful use of real-time data streams in your organization?
According to authors Federico Pigni and Elisabetta Raguseo, "Every time we google, tweet, or use the latest app on our mobile device, we generate a stream of digital data. Yet most companies are not quite ready to tap into these streams and extract maximum value from them." The opine that it's not external factors that are inhibiting adoption of digital data stream (DDS) initiatives. Instead, it's economics and technical complexity that stymie DDS initiatives. "Internal organizational readiness plays a decisive role in contrasting the success of real-time DDS initiatives. The evidence that the surveyed companies do not consider technical skills and commitment from top management as great inhibitors suggests that managers are aware of the potentiality of a real-time DDS initiative but need to be convinced of its benefits in the organizational setting."
