Q: Do you currently outsource or are you planning to outsource?

Last year's IT Trends survey showed a 50/50 split between organizations planning to outsource and others. At that time, we found that backlog, not cost, was outsourcing's biggest driver. This year, according to author Jim Love, "there is a significant shift," with the companies planning to outsource increasing by over 10 percentage points. Interestingly, however, "companies don't appear to focus their outsourcing efforts in any particular area. In fact, there is no material change in any area from last year in specific skills. Application development is still the number one area of outsourcing (43%), followed by Web (30%) and mobile (23%) application development. However, outsourcing is indeed increasingly a strategy employed by companies, presumably to address backlog and increase service levels."
