Carl Larson and Frank LaFasto's classic book Teamwork: What Must Go Right and What Can Go Wrong (Sage Publications 1989), has provided solid background research material for a decade of authors writing about teams and teamwork. In Teamwork, Larson and LaFasto talk about the eight characteristics of effective teams -- one of which I want to explore with respect to the agile project management (APM) movement: "the leaders managed the principles, and the principles managed the team."
