Designing and Building Software Projects: Lessons from the Building Trades

Although a great deal of attention has been devoted to the subject of designing and building software, fairly little attention has been spent on the problem of designing and building software projects. Yet there are few software practitioners who would argue that the structure and operation of the software project are not important. In this report, we will explore different approaches to designing and building software projects, drawing lessons learned from the architecture and construction industries.
