Managing Offshore Development: Establishing Software Development Processes

by Stacey Berlow

This Executive Update is the third in a series 1 that taps into my recent experiences with setting up and managing software development teams in India and China. This Update focuses on the necessity of quickly establishing repeatable software development processes and the negative business impact of not making this task a primary and early focus when setting up a remote team. The need for development processes is required in establishing any project team, regardless of location; however, the increases in cost, changes in schedule, or product delivery delays become magnified in an offshore or remote setting. The signals for making project course adjustments are harder to detect, and adjustments take longer to implement.
