Offshoring Value Delivery Framework

by John Berry

In many organizations, offshoring business processes are often conceived as a series of just-in-time, ad hoc decisions detached from a systematic and holistic framework that would otherwise offer discipline and consistency in decision making and execution. This is akin to looking through a periscope when the lens of a wide-angle camera would be a more appropriate device to view the entire landscape of issues and complexities inherent in many offshoring initiatives. Since the totality of decision making in any one offshoring initiative is iterative and causative, bad decisions early on in the execution of an offshoring project may result in bad decisions later (decisions that could have been avoided). Therefore, offshoring is a maturing management discipline that cries out for methodological attention for those organizations that intend to make it a permanent strategic and operational business option.
