Delivering Effective Business Solutions with Offshore Outsourcing

Length: 1 day

Leader: Tushar K. Hazra, PhD, Senior Consultant, Cutter Consortium

A well-orchestrated offshore outsourcing program can allow a workforce to reach out from a regional, to a national, to a global environment while delivering business value effectively and successfully. But it is essential that an organization launched its offshore outsourcing program with a solid strategy-- a strategy that ensures the organization's IT investments deliver enterprise business objectives. For best results, the strategy should be spelled out in a meticulously planned roadmap and subsequently followed by a rigorous management process to measure periodic progress. In this customized workshop, Cutter Senior Consultant Tushar Hazra will help your organization formulate an offshore outsourcing strategy, or assist with refining an existing strategy, and will help your enterprise establish a clear roadmap that resolves associated risks, challenges, and concerns. In addition, Dr. Hazra will facilitate creating a global sourcing delivery model with your team, and share a list of practical lessons learned in managing sourcing relationships that are focused on delivering business solutions and services.

Workshop Goals:

As a result of participating in this day-long session, your team will be able to:

Formulate an offshore outsourcing strategy, and if one is already available, improve and refine the strategy

Recognize the challenges of offshore outsourcing and how they impact the internal enterprise workforce

Understand various global sourcing delivery model options and how they can be embraced by employees, managers and executives alike

Manage your sourcing relationships effectively while delivering critical business goals and objectives.

Intended Audience: IT and Business Executives (CXO and VPs), Directors, Managers

Prerequisites: A basic understanding and knowledge of sourcing and vendor or channel management.

This workshop consists of four interactive sessions:

1. Establishing Your Strategy for Offshore Outsourcing. If you have a sourcing strategy in place for your enterprise, this session will help you understand the importance of continually tweaking it, and will demonstrate how to ensure your strategy encompasses both insourcing and outsourcing goals. If you do not have a strategy yet in place, this workshop will explore how to build one.

2. Recognizing and Managing Offshore Outsourcing Challenges. Outsourcing offshore adds complexity to projects due to differences between your and your vendors' socioeconomic culture, value proposition, supporting infrastructure, and business ethics. In this session, you will learn just how critical organizational culture and business domain-specific knowledge is to your offshore initiatives, and you'll understand why the feasibility of outsourcing a project offshore depends on how closely its business application components or services are connected to your company's infrastructure.

3. Creating a Global Sourcing Delivery Model - With Special Attention to Offshore Outsourcing. In this section of the workshop, Dr. Hazra will present a comprehensive, practical model that employs global resources, technology, and available processes in a consistent way to optimize the benefits you can achieve from offshore outsourcing. This model helps companies empower their IT organizations to align their projects with the appropriate business needs and facilitates delivering 'on-time, within budget' solutions.

4. Managing the Offshore Outsourcing Relationship. If your sourcing partner is failing to deliver effective results, then most likely you are experiencing the challenges of sourcing relationship management. Questions that are likely on your mind include:

What can we do to make this offshore outsourcing relationship work for us?

How can we establish good relationship with our offshore outsourcing partner?

What course of action can we take to improve the relationship?

This final part of the workshop will answer these questions with seven practical principles, and will share a few of lessons learned applying these principles in the real world. Plus, you'll have the opportunity to share your own lessons learned and discuss ways negative outcomes could become positive outcomes in the future.
