This is the second in a three-part series of Executive Updates on data management and analysis. In Part I (Vol. 7, No. 4), we looked at master data management (MDM); here in Part II, we turn to business intelligence (BI); we'll wrap up with customer analytics in the final Update . MDM is the analytical infrastructure to which we've paid too little attention for years; BI is the general approach we should take to data and information utilization and optimization; and customer analytics is a special instance of BI enabled by MDM.
