IT departments, like any business, are constantly being asked to excel in three dimensions simultaneously: quality of services, operational efficiency, and customer care. IBM's recent acquisition of SRD -- a vendor of "identity resolution management" technology -- helps shed some light on this very interesting application of data cleansing software.


Business intelligence (BI) vendor Cognos has acquired Optima Analytical Solutions S.A., of Spain, for an undisclosed amount. Optima is an established financial performance management solutions provider with a strong presence in the Spanish market. Optima will continue its operations in Spain under the name Cognos Espana.


A survey Cutter conducted (in November 2004) of 110 end-user organizations' business performance management practices indicates that more than one-quarter are providing proactive alerting capabilities for use with their business performance management solutions.
