Life in the Wild West was simple. Some people needed killing. And with so many trigger-happy people around, that's just what happened. Today's software industry can sometimes look a lot like the Wild West, complete with "cowboy coders," but there's one crucial difference: we hardly ever spot the projects that need killing; we hardly ever pull the trigger.
