James Higginbotham

James Higginbotham is a Cutter Expert and a member of Arthur D. Little's AMP open consulting network. He is an executive API consultant with experience in API strategy, software architecture, and training teams in API and microservice design. Mr. Higginbotham works with organizations all over the globe to guide them through their digital transformation journey. His approach bridges business and technology to deliver a great customer experience. Mr. Higginbotham brings over two decades of experience in software development and architecture across a variety of verticals, including supply chain management, commercial insurance, healthcare, hospitality, finance and banking, travel, and the airline industry. Today, consulting engagements often include API program strategy, API and microservice design, and software architecture.

Mr. Higginbotham began his career as an early adopter of Java 1.0, cowrote the first enterprise Java book, led multiple Agile teams to produce large-scale initiatives, and architected a variety of distributed computing solutions. These solutions often involved coordinating the processing of terabytes of data, even before the term "big data" emerged. He has also been involved in edge-computing initiatives, prior to the era of the Internet of Things. Mr. Higginbotham has consulted as an interim CTO to early-stage startups to deliver the initial product to market through a well-architected solution combined with cloud native technologies. Additional duties as an interim CTO include tech­nology choices, anticipating scaling and elasticity requirements, security, and staffing. Mr. Higginbotham has published several titles, including his latest book, A Practical Approach to API Design, and is a regular speaker at industry events, including API Strategy and Practice, GlueCon, and API:World.
