Charles Byers

Charles C. Byers is a Senior Technical Lead and Platform Architect at Cisco Systems, where he works on the architecture and implementation of fog computing platforms, media processing systems, and the Internet of Everything (IoE). Prior to Cisco Systems, Mr. Byers was a Bell Labs Fellow at Alcatel-Lucent. During his 32 years in the telecom networking industry, he has made significant contributions in voice switching, broadband access, converged networks, VoIP, multimedia, video, modular platforms, and the Internet of Things (IoT), and holds 72 US patents. Mr. Byers has also been a leader in several standards bodies, including serving as a founding member of PICMG's AdvancedTCA, AdvancedMC, and MicroTCA subcommittees and currently serves as cochair of the Architecture Framework Working Group and Technical Committee of the OpenFog Consortium. He received a bachelor of science degree in electrical and computer engineering and a master’s of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
