James Schiel

James (Jim) Schiel, CEO of Artistan Software Consulting, has more than 35 years’ experience in soft­ware development, R&D management, and Agile in highly regulated industries, such as healthcare and telecommunications. He has been a Certified Scrum Master (CSM) since 2005, a Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) and Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) since 2006, and a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) since 2008 when the certification was created. Mr. Schiel’s professional career began as a systems programmer and operator, leading to his work at Siemens Medical Solutions, where he instituted iterative project man­agement processes and improved product quality, development performance, and customer satisfaction in his product areas and also transitioned an organization of 1,200 develop­ers from waterfall and various iterative processes to Agile using Scrum and Extreme Programming (XP) practices. He has been coached by various thought leaders in the Agile space, including Bob Martin, Jim Grenning, Mike Cohn, Ken Schwaber, and Cutter Consortium Senior Consutlant Esther Derby. In 2008, Mr. Scheil left Siemens to begin working as an Agile coach and trainer, and, in 2009, founded Artisan Software Consulting, which provides coaching, training, and consulting to organizations attempting large-scale transitions to Agile using Scrum, XP, and Kanban-based approaches.
