One of the most popular concepts within the object-oriented development community is that of patterns. Though patterns never became a mainstream practice in the 1990s, they were constantly being discussed and debated in books and articles, as well as OO conferences such as OOPSLA. But at the beginning of this new decade, there seems to be an upswing in the level of interest, and it appears to be moving out of the OO community.
