Stijn Viaene

Leadership

Stijn Viaene is Fellow with Cutter Consortium. He is Professor and Partner at Vlerick Business School in Belgium, where he heads the Information Systems Management cluster. He is also a Professor in the Department Decision Sciences and Information Management at KU Leuven. At the university he holds the VDAB Chair of "Digital business innovation in public services". He has recently authored the book Digital Transformation Know How: Connecting Digital Transformation, Agility and Leadership.

Stijn is passionate about what it means to successfully create a digital enterprise, capturing the value that comes with the use of novel technological advances such as big data, analytics, social media, mobile computing and the cloud. His research and teaching focus on information systems management (ISM) issues in three primary areas: (1) digital transformation; (2) business and IT alignment, strategy, leadership and governance; and (3) business process management (BPM). Stijn supervises multiple research-for-business initiatives in collaboration with industry and public sector partners at Vlerick Business School, including the centers for excellence he cofounded, BPM Network and Enterprise Architecture Management. These initiatives contribute to a significantly better practical and academic understanding of what it means to make optimal use of IT in a contemporary organizational context.

Stijn teaches in Vlerick Business School's full-time and part-time MBA programmes, including in St. Petersburg. He also is a regular teacher in the School's open/executive and company-specific programmes. He is, among others, the programme director for the Digital Leadership Summer School and the Executive Master Class in BPM. Stijn loves teaching with cases. He has written teaching cases with, among others, VDAB (How IT Enables Business Model Innovation), FedEx (Enterprise Business-IT Engagement in an Empowered Business Environment), ING (Marketing’s Business Transformation at ING Belgium Retail), KLM (CRM Excellence at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines), Barco (Corporate IT Transformation at BARCO), BNP Paribas Fortis (Hello Bank!
