Magesh Kasthuri discusses how city administration can use blockchain. He provides various insights into decentralized architecture, including its technology benefits and security implementation. The article highlights a need for self-healing and auto-scaling services within a smart city architecture, which can be achieved by a blockchain network based on HyperLedger Fabric in a cloud environment. Blockchain can make cities more efficient and more resilient and adds greater transparency and security to a city’s digital processes. Diego Alvarez, Pietro Cortellini, and Emily Munchak invite readers to look at DAOs through the lens of the music industry. The authors investigated three DAOs: Audius, BitSong, and MODA DAO, which aim to disrupt their market. The study differentiates between DAOs driven primarily by economic incentives from those focused on social incentives and highlights five dimensions that characterize all DAOs: purpose, community, technology, tokens, and governance. The study focuses on DAOs from the music industry, but the authors offer generalized insights for other industries.

Athula Ginige and Marie D. Fernando look at the idea of value creation in the digital shift era. In particular, their interest lies in how current Web- and mobile-based applications support what they term the “social computing” model, a new computing paradigm that stands apart from preceding computing paradigms. Their article presents a model for human needs fulfillment, which helps organizations map out their digital value-creation process and reveals the underlying information flow pattern required to secure trust.

Lila Rajabion provides four examples of how KGs can help leaders advance their understanding of the business environment in which their company sits. These include merging data silos to create a company overview across divisions, connecting different types of data in meaningful ways, aiding informed decision making by narrowing searches and contextualizing information, and showing interconnections that help leaders gain perspective. Next, she dives into how Google, LinkedIn, eBay, and IBM are using KGs and explains how other companies could follow suit. She then addresses four challenges currently faced by companies looking to leverage KGs, followed by a look at specific business efficiencies enabled by KGs, including making data more accessible for employees, helping leaders make data-driven decisions, and assisting companies in deploying AI technology.

Lucy Frew highlights the current predicaments of DAOs from a legal and regulatory perspective. The article explores the challenges that DAOs present to the legal structures of organizations as we know them. Overall, DAOs aim at decentralization, but the degree of decentralization varies over time and has critical implications for the accountability of its members: the token holders. Frew discusses the existing regulatory landscape of DAOs and looks at the circumstances under which a DAO might benefit from seeking legal status.

Our research and consulting reveal that CEOs and their CxO colleagues play a pivotal role in determining whether or not their organizations exploit the innovative opportunities provided by digital technologies. Creating and sustaining value from digital investments requires the CEO’s focused attention and oversight. CEOs set the tone, and their active participation determines whether their organizations optimize a return from any spending on IT. Guido Peterssen and José Luis Hevia focus on the operational and organizational dimensions of quantum computing. They provide a compelling call to action: without robust governance, quantum computing projects will likely spiral into unmanageable complexity. Through a detailed case study of Bizkaia Quantum Advanced Industries (BIQAIN), the authors introduce the concept of the private quantum hub as a model for resource coordination, lifecycle management, and cost control across distributed quantum infrastructures.

There has been a flurry of attraction in the past year in securing public cloud service providers. Further validating this trend, the author predicts that “the trend across the globe will be to go ‘all in’ on just a handful of hyperscale public cloud providers.” He further asserts that “this concentration of risk will become a focus of attention for those charged with mitigating ‘black swan’ risks to the global economy.”

While every UN member state should use the SDGs for framing their agendas and political policies, the responsibility and potential for meeting these goals also lies with every individual and organization.
